  • MPH* Health Promotion Specialization

    Admission Requirements:
Entry into the MPH* degree program is very competitive. In addition to recruiting top students from a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs, we are especially interested in receiving applications from mature applicants who have work or volunteer experience in health-relevant fields. Relevant fields might not deal specifically with health but might concern issues, for example, related to marginalization, social justice, inequity, etc..

We offer places to approximately one in ten applicants, with approximately 20 new students entering each Fall.

    • General admission requirements: Review the general admission requirements.  Click here for information regarding the application process for the Dalla Lana School of Public Health
    • MPH* (Health Promotion Specialization) statistics requirement: An undergraduate statistics course (with a minimum of a B or 75% grade is required). Applicants who do not meet one of the two conditions below will NOT be considered for admission:
      • EITHER applicants must have completed an appropriate statistics course (with a B grade, 75% or better) at the time of their application—for details concerning the required content of acceptable statistics courses, see statistics course
      • OR applicants must be registered, at the time of their application, in an appropriate statistics course; this must be completed by no later than May 30th, with a B grade (75%) or better

(In their Letter of Intent, applicants must indicate which course(s) they consider fulfills the above requirements; this must include: academic institution at which the course(s) was taken, course title, course number, and final grade.)

    • Application assessment criteria: equal weight is given to each of the following five dimensions of students’ applications:

      1. Academic grades
      2. Social science courses such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, political science, or social science based interdisciplinary programs (e.g., health studies, international development, women’s studies, indigenous health)

      4. Experience in paid or volunteer capacities, addressing determinants of health (e.g., social justice and health inequities)
      5. Two letters of reference from persons familiar with your academic and/or your paid/volunteer work performance
